TO SHARON, WITH BROTHERLY LOVE: A TRIBUTE TO SHARON JONES

In Philadelphia, we love Miss Sharon Jones always and forever! In honor of her music and unquenchable spirit, hometown soul heroine PJ Brown will be hosting a tribute show in honor of her legacy on May 27th at World Cafe Live in Philadelphia. We are also pleased to announce we will have The York Street Hustle and the one and only Miss Martha Graham Cracker! We are looking to share the night with all who cherished her music by celebrating the best of who she was.

PJ BROWN & HER RESISTANCE

PJ Brown has performed for over 2 decades; enjoying membership in such bands as: The Divas of One Love, Soulamite!, The Sideshow Prophets, and Northern Arms. She has made many cameos in numerous bands and projects as well, including (but not limited to): Brown Sugar, Pig Iron Theater, The Peek-A-Boo Review & The Martha Graham Cracker Cabaret.

YORK STREET HUSTLE

Each week, ten musicians arrive in the parking lot of a former funeral home in South Philadelphia where, one by one, they unload their old tube amps and vintage instruments. Once inside, the classic sounds of the 1960s are reinvigorated, reenergized and reborn.

Legends, like The Temptations, Aretha Franklin, and the Four Tops, as well as lesser-known artists including Donny Hathaway, Arthur Conley and Betty Everett are given new life.

MARTHA GRAHAM CRACKER CABARET

If your idea of a drag show involves lip-synching, this is not that. This is a rollicking, sometimes careening out-of-control, balls-to-the-wall gender warrior cabaret led by Dito van Reigersberg, co-founder and co-artist director of Philadelphia's venerable Pig Iron Theatre Company. Martha Graham Cracker is, arguably, the world's tallest and hairiest drag queen and was deemed the "Drag Queen King of Philadelphia" by the Philadelphia Inquirer and has received the Best of Philly award from Philadelphia magazine. Martha is accompanied by a four-piece band.
