Happy Apogee Moon!

An apogee moon is the point at which the moon is farthest from the Earth on its elliptical orbit. Although the astronomical calendar is still on schedule, my show tomorrow is not. Due to a number of factors, I regret to inform that Saturday's house concert is cancelled. However, the venue and I are in the process of rescheduling the event.

In other news, I am proud to announce that my next album will be released on Tuesday, September 18, 2018! The Nook is a full length straight-ahead jazz album. The music harks back to Miles Davis' first great quintet. John Swana, veteran Philadelphia trumpeter, guest appears on valve trombone. The rest of the band consists of Brian Blaker (tenor saxophone), John B Hedges (piano), Ben Basile (upright bass), and Charlie Heim (percussion).

The Nook is my fifth solo release; the first to use exclusively acoustic instruments. I wrote five of the album's features original compositions. "The Nook" (co-written with Ben Basile) is a raucous blues named for the spandrel at Tattooed Mom Bar, Philadelphia, PA. John Swana guests on "Two Dollar Breakfast Special," named for a menu item at the Main Street Bistro, New Paltz, NY. Jazz standard "Dear Old Stockholm" is re-arranged to interpolate a number of other jazz standards.

You can preview a couple tracks on my website. If you like what you hear, The Nook is available for pre-sale at bandcamp. I'm in the process of booking a release show for September, so stay tuned!
